While one might say that a router’s only job is to work, the Linksys EA9500 Tri-band MU-MIMO router aims to go far above and beyond that by promising performance that very few competitors have.

The speed that the Linksys EA9500 Tri-band MU-MIMO router promises

It’s true that everyone wants a router that works, but is there a next stage? If there is one, the EA9500 certainly occupies it. Compared to most routers currently in use – even those with recent dates – Linksys’ heavy hitter seems futuristic: the combined Wi-Fi speed of over 5,000 megabits per second comfortably exceed what any present-day device can handle. And with seamless roaming and one of the most extensive interfaces on the market, it’s well-equipped for use in any environment, from private to public. But how useful are its features, really?

For starters, you won’t be able to make good use of this router without a really fast internet connection. Even with one, its utility might not shine unless you aim to transmit Wi-Fi to multiple devices often. Even then, you might find the router’s massive size off-putting and taking away from the interior’s appearance. Here, size also means cost: while $400 for a router is already a lot, a device of this size and with this much utility will need a lot of power, translating to an even bigger overall cost of the device. In short, unless you’re absolutely sure you can make full use of its features, you might want to consider leaving the EA9500 to internet users in the future.
